Education Advocacy Teams unique for each county are working together to support education excellence based on each county's needs. All are invited to join the team! FundingThe Heidi Badgett Fund is an available funding resource for Webster County, provided through United Way. Regional Stewardship Grant funding for 2010-2011: On August 4, 2010, the grant sub-committee met via conference call and approved ten of the thirteen grants submitted. Letters have been sent to the grantees along with funding guidelines. A total of $229,693 dollars in grant funding has been award thus far. Additional proposals are anticipated and we encourage you to continue to promote the funding in your county. Proposal guidelines can be found on our website at www.murraystate.edu/outreach. Proposals Include: Internal Grants: Name: Murray Shakespeare Festival 2011- a third year project that targets middle and high schools in the region bringing in a professional theatre company to conduct teacher workshops and live performances. Total budget RSO request: $8,000 Total project budget: $21,350 Name: MSU RACERS (Regional Agriculture Continuing Education and Resources Series)Will provide educational events to the region to address several emerging issues regarding Ag and sustainably. Also, includes the development of a duel credit "Issues in Agriculture" course.Total budget RSO request: $20,000 Total project budget: 67,000 total Name: TQI Future Educators Fall Conference/Summer Camp previously supported by Kentucky Department of Education, to provide outreach to high school students interested in the teaching profession. Both the conference and the summer camp will bring students from the region to campus to provide hands on learning.Total budget RSO request: $15,000 ($8,000)Total project budget: $15,000 Name: STEM initiatives for KY – third year project to implement a variety of STEM activities to bolster STEM education in K-12 schools. Funding includes an Outreach Coordinator to work with all 6 departments in the college.Total budget RSO request: $64,000 Total project budget: $64,000 Name: Parents as Partners – a mentoring program designed for Clark Elementary School to engage parents of elementary school students in the learning activities of mathematics.Total budget RSO request: $3,000 Total project budget: $3,000 TOTAL GRANTED: $103,000 External Grants: Name: West Kentucky Academy for District Superintendents and School Leaders - professional development to build leadership skills that support the efforts of classroom teachers in the implementation and application of the common core standards in 27 school districts in west KY. Total budget RSO request: $54,000 ($35,928) Total project budget: $71,865 Name: Math Improvement Project – professional development to teachers of middle and secondary students to understand the new common core state standards in math and be able to align course syllabi to reflect the new standards, acquire instructional best practices that support student preparation.Total budget RSO request: $70,000 ($36,250)Total project budget: $72,500 Name: Performing Arts-in-Education Partnership - a two part project targeting students with learning and behavior disorders as well as reading and literacy in the region. This project will partner with the Luther F. Carson Four Rivers Center in Paducah, KY. Total budget RSO request: $10,000 Total project budget: $50,211 Name: West Kentucky AgBiowork - Create new bio energy agricultural opportunities for west KY farmers, former tobacco growers, and foresters by creating a farmer’s network and a resource center to provide education to students in the region. Total budget RSO request: $32,000 Total project budget: $136,000 Name: Hooked on Science – a partnership with Calloway County Conservation District to provide STEM education in every school in the region.Total budget RSO request: $12,380 Total project budget: $24,760 TOTAL GRANTED: $126,558 Action Group IdeasReading/Mentoring Programs.
