Union County Education Advocacy Team Action Groups
These are community groups, and all are invited to join!
- Academic Emphasis: Two incoming freshmen participated in a three-day job-shadowing program in July, hosted by the Academic Emphasis group. The purpose was the provide students with real-life exposure working in the field of their choice. Both participants had an enriching experience, and the group is planning a similar job shadowing program for the fall. Download Registration Form. May 28th notes.
- Scholarship Program: This group is interested in organizing a scholarhship program modeled after School Counts! They are currently organizing a committee to work on this project.
- Expectations: This committee organized a successful Back to School Rally at the Renaissance corner in Morganfield August 1. The Back to School Rally featured several motivational speakers, music, and snacks. The Expectations group aims to raise expectations for educational achievement throughout the community--expectations of parents, of students, of community involvement, and of our schools. - Student Motivation: This group hosted a CATS testing pep rally in May to encourage students to do their best on the CATS test! Children of all ages across the school district came together at UCHS for the event. view meeting notes
- There is also interest in partnering with the Union County Health Council to provide health-related education in schools.
